Controls Engineer

Reports to: Robotics & Controls Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time, Salary-Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Electrical Controls Engineer designs electrical controls systems in accordance to the customer's needs. This will be done by collaborating with Sales, Engineering teams, and Operations in order to keep our promise to our customer and supply them with an end solution that exceeds their expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create Electrical Schematics, panels, and machine layouts for achieving a quality electrical system.
  • Develops engineering design plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying engineering techniques and criteria involving circuit design including parameters, stability, bandwidth, and noise, parasitic effects, impedances, high-frequency behavior, filters, transformations, signals, and amplifier design; adapting and modifying engineering approaches and options; developing and evaluating new engineering approaches; performing circuit, logic, and component designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques; prepare layouts, block diagrams, and schematics; collaborating with related engineering design teams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; identifying and resolving engineering design integration/interface issues; determining and establishing engineering design specifications and safety standards.
  • Create detailed parts descriptions for the database.
  • Build a detailed bill of material for the purchasing department so materials can be purchased correctly and timely.
  • Research Components and determine the correct one for application.
  • Designs electrical controls systems that will achieve the customers' specific needs for the machine.
  • Confirms electrical system and component capabilities by designing testing methods, testing properties.
  • Analyzes electrical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying electrical engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria, designing, and conducting research programs.
  • Communicate and listen to customers to fully understand what the customer needs are so we can continue to build strong customer relations.
  • Professionally and respectfully collaborates with inside customers, working together to achieve or exceed each customer's desired expectations.
  • Support the Sales/Development Department with preliminary design philosophy to support client relationships and new opportunities.
  • Work closely with the client’s team, as well as project manager, and RSM to guarantee a quality system is designed and tested to customers' specifications
  • Troubleshoot controls and communicates problems during construction and operations to achieve a quality solution.
  • Responsible for ensuring Safety requirements are met.
  • Follow any other job-related duties/functions requested by the supervisor.
  • Create and install PLC & HMI programs and all other software needed to make the machine operate as required.
  • Travel to the customer’s site to assist in the installation or repair of the machine’s electrical system if required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk. Standing and walking to different departments will be required. The employee will need vision to see close, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, talk, hear and listen while working on the shop floor with team members or collaborating with the customer.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s Degree with focus on engineering and manufacturing.
