Machinist
Reports to: Machining and Welding Supervisor
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Machinist makes machined parts required for Assembly as well as for rebuild, repair and equipment overhaul. The Machinist completes work quickly, accurately and with a high degree of quality, and follows Company practices for workplace safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Machinist will perform the following duties:
- Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as CNC milling centers, lathes, and pedestal grinders.
- Reads and understands engineering prints, bills-of-material, materials specifications, and other job specifications.
- Writes basic tool path programs for CNC equipment. Modifies and maintains programs to adjust for revision changes, errors, and continuous improvement.
- Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and equipment used.
- Measures, examines, and verifies accuracy of work completed to detect defects and ensure conformance to engineering prints and specifications using precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc.
- Sets-up, adjusts, and operates all machine tools to complete the machining operations.
- Cleans and maintains all equipment and tools according to Company standards.
- Cross-trains for supporting roles for personal growth and department support.
- Assists team members enthusiastically and as needed to build strong partnerships.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Keeps regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Machinist will work daily in the Machine and Weld Shop. Persons in this role regularly operate metal-cutting equipment such as CNC milling centers, lathes and drill presses, hand tools and gages. The air in the work environment is moderated, but temperatures may fluctuate from hot to cold depending on the seasons. The department may prove to be very fast paced. The noise level is moderate to high.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
The Machinist is a physically active role. The employee should be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours, be required to lift materials and use hand tools. The Machinist is expected to have the ability to move arms and hands, and lift and carry materials. The employee needs unimpaired vision to see close, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The Machinist is required to be compliant to and follow OSHA safety standards.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This position is full-time, working first shift Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime may be necessary on occasion to meet the production schedule.
SKILLS:
- Highly knowledgeable in the methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the machinist trade.
- Proficient in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
- Knowledgeable in the machining qualities and properties of various metals such as steel, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel as well as many plastics.
- Demonstrated mathematical, measuring, and mechanical aptitude.
- High attention to detail for performing accurate work and checking accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Excellent housekeeping and organization.
- Knowledgeable in standards for workplace safety.
- Professionalism and ability to work together with team members to help meet or exceed deadlines.
- Reading comprehension to understand instructions, reports, and specifications.
- Able to read engineering prints.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years prior experience operating CNC milling centers.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience in a manufacturing and assembly environment.
- Familiarity with the correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must have a set of measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc.
